Electrical Panel & Service Upgrades in NY & NJ

Old 100-amp panels and fuse boxes can't safely power a modern home. We upgrade to 200-amp service, replace failing and recalled panels, and handle the meter and service-entrance work — fully permitted and ready for inspection.

/ OVERVIEW

If your lights dim when the A/C kicks on, your panel is packed with double-tapped breakers, or you're still running a fuse box, your electrical service is overdue. Adding an EV charger, a heat pump, a hot tub, or a finished basement usually needs more capacity than an older panel can give you.

Antonio handles the whole job end to end — load calculation, permit, the upgrade itself, and the utility coordination — so your home is safer, code-compliant, and ready for whatever you plug into it next.

What a panel upgrade covers

  • 100A → 200A (or higher) service upgrades
  • Replacing failing, overheating, or recalled panels (Federal Pacific, Zinsco, Challenger)
  • New sub-panels for additions, garages, and basements
  • Meter and service-entrance cable replacement
  • Whole-home surge protection added at the panel
  • Permit, utility coordination, and final inspection

Signs it's time to upgrade

  • Breakers that trip often or won't reset
  • A fuse box, or a panel that feels warm to the touch
  • Lights that flicker or dim when big appliances start
  • No spare slots left for new circuits
  • Adding an EV charger, hot tub, central A/C, or addition
  • A Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or Challenger panel

What affects the cost

Every home is different, so we quote each job after we understand it — then you approve a clear, flat-rate price before any work starts. No mystery line items. These are the things that move the number:

  • Target amperage (200A vs. 400A)
  • Whether the meter and service cable need replacing
  • Overhead vs. underground service
  • Panel location and distance from the meter
  • Any code-required fixes uncovered during the work

Panel & Service Upgrades — common questions

How long does a panel upgrade take?

Most residential panel swaps are a one-day job. We schedule the brief power shut-off with you and the utility ahead of time, so you're never left guessing.

Do I need a permit to replace my panel?

Yes — panel and service work has to be permitted and inspected in both NY and NJ. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection, and handle the utility paperwork as part of the job.

Is a 200-amp upgrade worth it?

If you're adding an EV charger, heat pump, or finished space — or you keep tripping breakers — yes. 200A gives most homes comfortable headroom for years.

Are Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels really a problem?

These panels have a documented history of breakers that fail to trip, which is a fire risk. If you have one, replacing it is one of the best safety investments you can make.
